The North Shore’s Border Route Trail
The best hike in the Midwest.
This is the most rugged, remote trail you’ll find in the midwest. 65.4 miles of single track raw pristine wilderness. A hiker and adventurist’s dream. A tourist’s nightmare. Segments include Old Growth White Pines as the heart of the trail has been untouched by loggers. You’ll hike along volcanic extrusions, beside pristine lakes of the Boundary Waters, and experience vistas that leave doubts you’re still in Minnesota. It’s quiet, with few hikers and there’s ~25 mile segment with no evacuation points, which allow for some very isolated terrain. Use this as a guide to exploring the trail, creating a route that works for you. There are several drop off points along the trail that allow you to complete segments of the trail. Zoom in and out to capture details and mileage markers. It’s always safest to purchase the complete guide when preparing to hike the BRT.
